Clear the Line
Unbelief
Sounds like
“I keep asking, but I don't really believe it'll change.”
Clear it
Pray the honest prayer: 'Lord, I believe; help Thou mine unbelief.' Then speak one promise out loud so your ears hear the Word louder than the worry.
Mark 9:24; James 1:6-8
Fear
Sounds like
“I'm just being realistic about how bad this could get.”
Clear it
Name the fear, then answer it: 'God has not given me the spirit of fear, but power, love, and a sound mind.' Refuse the report you were not given.
2 Timothy 1:7
Unconfessed sin
Sounds like
“There's something I've made peace with and kept in the dark.”
Clear it
Confess it specifically and receive His cleansing — He is faithful and just to forgive. Consider it cleared.
Psalm 66:18; 1 John 1:9
Unforgiveness
Sounds like
“I'm holding something against someone — and I'm justified.”
Clear it
Name them and forgive out loud — release them from your judgment into God's. Take your hand off their throat so your line comes clear.
Mark 11:25
Pride
Sounds like
“God, fix my situation — but don't touch my heart.”
Clear it
Bow it: 'Have Your way in me, not just in my circumstances.' Then lift your head and pray in confidence — the line is open.
James 4:6
Wrong motives
Sounds like
“If I'm honest, this request is aimed more at what I want than at God's glory.”
Clear it
Re-aim it: 'Deliver me so that Thou shalt glorify me.' Ask for the thing with His glory as the goal, not only your comfort.
James 4:3; Psalm 50:15
Double-mindedness
Sounds like
“One hour I believe it; the next I'm sure it'll fail — I can't stay settled.”
Clear it
Stop trying to feel certain. Plant your feet on one specific promise of God and stand there, refusing to be moved by the weather of your emotions.
James 1:6-8
